Main Center : After School Program

The primary focus of our After-School Program is to build the academic skills and confidence of low income students at risk for academic failure.

The program provides academic support, educational enrichments, and parent engagement activities which build students mental, physical, and social abilities.

ABOUT

Roberts Family Development Center (RFDC) began providing academic enrichment services in 2001, serving 13 students in North Sacramento.  Since then, we have grown to provide academic wrap-around services for over 500 students, their families, and their communities.  Our programs are primarily held at 7 sites in high risk neighborhoods throughout the Greater Sacramento area.

Our services are focused on serving low-income families who struggle to secure quality care and academic support for their children.  Students in these economically challenged families often struggle to keep up academically during the school year, leading to the achievement gap.

This achievement gap is compounded by summer learning loss, putting them farther and farther behind with each passing year.  Without support, children in these families often become trapped in a multigenerational cycle of poor life outcomes including poverty, lack of education, involvement with law enforcement, chronic health conditions, prolonged stress, etc.

NEW PARENT EXPECTATIONS

Modeled after the CDF Freedom Schools summer program, the primary focus of our After-School Program is to build the academic skills and confidence of low income students at risk for academic failure, therefore narrowing the achievement gap.

The program provides academic support, educational enrichments, and parent engagement activities which build students mental, physical, and social abilities.  Our academic supports include homework assistance and small group tutoring.  Our educational enrichments cover a broad range of activities including literacy and STEM, media and performance arts, social-emotional and life skills, and social action projects.  Our parent engagement activities ensure that students and parents have a strong support system on which to build their success.
